AN ODE TO THE EMBROIDERERS OF THE LEVANT REGION

ODE is not just a brand; it’s a beacon of hope in the fashion industry. In a landscape dominated by fast fashion, ODE’s unique model revitalizes worn garments while honoring the rich tradition of embroidery from the Levant region. By supporting ODE, you’re not just purchasing a product; you’re contributing to a sustainable revolution in fashion.

ODE offers clothing and home textiles that are embroidered at the Jana Studio in Beirut. This women’s embroidery collective was established by Syrian artist Fatima Khalife, who, like many of her compatriots, fled to Lebanon to escape the civil war.

“We chose the name ODE to honor the artisans and their meticulous, meaningful work,” says designer and founder Larissa von Planta. Larissa’s journey as a young haute couturière began at Central Saint Martins, a prestigious art and design school in London. It was here that she first experimented with vintage clothing, reflecting her respect for artisanal craftsmanship. During an internship in Beirut, von Planta became acquainted with Levantine aesthetics. Following the devastating explosion in the port of Beirut, she founded the brand ODE to provide access to new markets for the embroiderers she had worked with in Lebanon.

Would you like to have your favorite clothing adorned with exquisite cross-stitching? If so, bring your garments to INTWINE (1), where you can choose from a wide range of embroidery yarn colors and decide on their placement on your clothing (2).

INTWINE and ODE will then send your items to Beirut, where Fatima Khalife and her team will embroider (3) them in close collaboration with Larissa von Planta.

After ten to twelve weeks, you can pick up your embroidered clothing at INTWINE (4). The cost of the embroidery is CHF 150.00, which includes shipping and handling.

The embroidery studio is located in Bourj Hammoud in the north of the city of Beirut.
